Things to do in Everglades National Park
Everglades National Park is not a still swamp: it is a shallow river of grass moving slowly south, and it has no single front door. Shark Valley, on the Tamiami Trail, is roughly a 45-minute drive from Miami and offers a 15-mile loop by tram, bicycle or on foot to an observation tower. The Homestead and Ernest F.
Coe entrance lies further south, and the Gulf Coast side is reached separately through Everglades City. A private vehicle pass covers 7 days, plus a $100-per-person surcharge for non-residents aged 16 and over, unless you hold an annual pass.
December to April, the dry season, is the best window: fewer mosquitoes and more wildlife gathered around shrinking water holes.
